Ice 1.1.1 and Ice for PHP released

ZeroC, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of the Internet Communications Engine (Ice), version 1.1.1. Accompanying this release is the first version of IcePHP, an implementation of the Ice client-side run time for the PHP scripting language. IcePHP enables the integration of Ice servers with web-enabled applications: clients access web pages through a browser and, via PHP scripts on the web server, can interact with Ice servers. This makes Ice available for seamless integration with a large number of web servers, such as Apache, SunONE, Netscape, and Caudium. (See http://www.php.net for the full list of supported servers.)

A new chapter in the Ice documentation provides detailed examples of the capabilities of IcePHP.

Other improvements:
  • A new documentation chapter on the use of the Ice configuration mechanism.
  • Minor bug fixes.
For a detailed description of Ice and IcePHP, please have a look at http://www.zeroc.com/ice.html and http://www.zeroc.com/icephp.html. For a comparison of Ice and CORBA, please see http://www.zeroc.com/iceVsCorba.html.

In addition to traditional proprietary licensing models for commercial customers, Ice is also freely available as Open Source under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). You can download the complete Ice source and documentation from http://www.zeroc.com/download.html.
