Ubuntu Linux?

Is this a supported platform? I see SUSE/RedHat installs. What gives? Are anyof these usable?

  • Thanks :-)
  • Debian packages are available

Neither Debian or Ubuntu are officially supported platforms as you can see in http://www.zeroc.com/platforms.html.

Nevertheless I maintain the ZeroC Ice packages for Debian and I never faced a serious compatibility issue so far. Indeed the Debian binary packages may actually be easier to setup in some scenarios (e.g. Debian version falls-back to poll when epoll is not available).

Ubuntu Edgy universe and later includes my packages.

  • Fransisco,

Thanks for the information. I'll contact you offline.

  • Ubuntu is not an officially supported platform, so we won't make any promises. However, I compile Ice on Ubuntu all the time without problems.

    Cheers,

    Michi.
  • Michi,

Thanks. That's a good data point. I'll start looking into this shortly.

  • Michi,

Just a quick follow up. I've rebuilt 3.2.1 from scratch on my system. Thanks for the tip.

  • I'm using Ice in Ubuntu Linux 6.06 dapper and it works well :)
