Making NIO easier for ICE

I am not a Java guy but from what I've seen I believe Java version of ICE uses NIO a lot? I just came across a library that wraps the complexities of NIO inside and offers a nice interface to users. More information canbe found here:

    We didn't have a problem with the NIO API yet, but rather with the lack of some functionality, which a layer cannot add if not present in the core of NIO...

    I don't want to continue this here since this is getting OT for this forum. Is it possible for you to let me know what kind of functionalities you missed out of NIO? I am just being insanely curious here...
