Ice in China
Dear Ice users:
Ice is becoming increasingly popular in China, as evidenced by the many Chinese users in this support forum.
We are considering to open a branch office in China, and would like to get more information about our Chinese users here in this forum. If you are from China, I therefore would like to ask you to send us the following information, as a reply to this post, or as email to info@zeroc.com.
Best regards,

I cann't remember from where I knew about ICE, just remember it is about 1 year ago. But I think ad is important if want more people to use. And specially, copyright policy is very important in China, you can't count on little company or personal development pay the license fee in the nearest years. So if you want payback, I think you should cooperate with large company. Or you simply ingore the copyright problem, this may take huge payback in the future. Just like ms. And now game develop is very hot in China, I think you have enough experence with game architect with ICE .
This is the infomation and advice I can provide. Thank you.0 -

The project I am working on is a security related one. it's a unique identity
platform for all kinds of applications such as OA, Email, MIS, CRM, etc in an
enterprise. The major feature of this platform is the unique identity service
for all integrated applications to perform SSO (single sign on), implement
multiple level security authentication and authorization, integrate multiple
security technologies such as CA, Smart Card, RADIUS, and so on.
ICE is the network communication platform which our system based on and
is the core from which we extend our authentication and authorization APIs
and service provider interface APIs.

Chinese software market is growing up quickly and it needs the core IT
technologies support such as middleware. Although Big Blue and other
IT giants want to cram it with their products, there still has chances for
newcomers. I hope you seize the opportunity and explore the new land
successfully! By the way, I am sure your product is really a good catalyzer
to fulfill our direction. Hope to build a bridge between us.0 -

It all depends on what you consider real-time (i.e., what the maximum acceptable delay is), how many subscribers there are (if there are many, you might need federation, which increases scalability, but decreases performance), and of course also what kind of hardware and network you are using.
In general Ice is very efficient with passing messages (due to the efficient forwarding mechanism built into the Ice core), but of course each technology has limits. To give you a more concrete answer, I would need to know more information about your setup, in particular how man subscribers there are.
Also, if you do not require reliable message delivery, you could use datagrams (UDP), which would of course further burst your performance.0 -

More tech support, you can earn more money by support .Now the distribute middleware markey are occupied by Corba and J2ee, I think you can cooperate with some companies, so the Ice can be used widely. I also think there is no good enough tool, although Ice is simple enough, many programmers want to use Ice by tool support.0 -

I just know it, we are eager to find a way to integrate all services distributed everywhere. finally we decide to use ICE, for it's open-source, transparent between C++ and Java. But ICE is yonger, ICE can be a very efficient Tool to develop Heavy-Coomunication Application, But not a convenient Tool, It take me 10 days to study before I can write a useful service. In many case SOAP and web service can do easyly.
I sugguested ICE go on free and open source, Payment will be an obstacle to expanding the user group. ICE can cooperate with some large companies for the acceptable return.0 -
